- I have two spoiled chihuahua's that slept in my bed, one on each side...causing me to wake stiff as a board each morning. Was hard break them of my bed, but I decided they needed their own beds and I needed mine. I had previously tried several different kinds of traditional dog beds, but one of the chi's is a major chewer and no matter how indestructive the material claimed to be, he found a way to turn it into shredded paper. Searching the internet I came accross this very elegant and sturdy looking doggie bunk bed unit and decided to give it a try.
The Metropolitan beds came in a large box, well packed with sturdy wood guards all around the box. The construction of the bed itself is excellent..very strong and elegant looking even better than the picture. The flaws I see are in the stairs and the cushions. The stairs are too narrow and slanted which made it very hazardous for my chi's to climb. The cushions are thin and although they are supposedly made from memory foam, they feel much too thin and the inner material seems sparse.
Still, I liked the construction of the actual beds so I made some adjustments --removed the stairs and attached my own full sized carpeted stairs the chi's used to get into my bed. I added soft dog mats under the cushion to insulate around the gaps and I drapped one of my quilts from my bed over the unit. Now the chi's are happy as clams going to bed. It's true the adjustments I made removed much of the aesthetic appeal of this product, but I am still satisfied.
