Litter Robot LRII Automatic Self Cleaning Litter Box Beige

Litter Robot LRII Automatic Self-Cleaning Litter Box, Beige
The Litter Robot is the automatic, self cleaning litter box for cats 'that really works'. When your cat enters the litter chamber (globe) a weight activated sensor detects the presence of your cat. After 7 minutes a clean cycle starts with the slow rotation of the globe in a counter-clockwise direction. The rotation of the globe sifts and separates clumps from the clean litter (clumping litter) and deposits all waste in the large capacity drawer lined with a standard kitchen garbage bag. The globe then returns to its home position with a clean, level bed of litter ready for the next use. The Litter Robot has no rakes or wires to jam, clog, or break. Its simplicity and durable construction ensure a long life of service. The Litter Robot operates on 12VDC and is easy to set up - just add litter to the globe and plug it in.

- I've been using the Littler Robot Eco Edition for about a week. Let me say that first off the notion that your house will smell better is rubbish. This thing stinks like any other litter box. The waste isn't delivered into some hermetically sealed container where the smell doesn't escape. It's just a plastic bin.

It also still requires work just like any other litter box. I take that back, not like any other litter box. You have to clean the dome, you have to clean the rubbish bin.

Does this save you money? I don't think so. It uses electricity which a normal litter box does not use. It also still uses litter. And so far it seems to use more litter. Although my cats are still curious so they maybe contributing to the litter issue. It uses electricity.

There's also the potential for break down. And purchasing the replacement parts are going to be more than buying a new litter box.

On the positive side I haven't had any mechanical/electronic issues. The thing does clean itself. But overall I can think of plenty of things that are a better value.

- My husband bought this as a Christmas gift for me almost 2 years ago. We LOVE it! It has saved a lot of money on cat litter and paid for itself plus you don't have to scoop the litter anymore. We have 4 cats and I only have to worry about it every 2 days! Just open the drawer, tie the bag off & put a new one in then shut the door & add a little more litter to the machine.

- This is a great product/concept. While it costs less to buy/use this very expensive litter box than it does to maintain 2 "low tech" litter boxes (you buy MUCH LESS litter over the course of the year than you need to using the traditional litter pan) - I've burned through 2 of them in the past 4 years and tonight the motor burned out just 20 months after I purchased the last one. VERY FRUSTRATING and the only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars.

I would highly recommend this for any elderly relative who loves their kitties but has trouble bending/ scooping/ carrying cartons of litter -- even though it needs to be replaced every 18-20 months, its worth the convenience and the peace of mind.
